Helping our Neighbors at Bannister House

You might say we  live in a time where people don't care to help their neighbors.

We must live in a different time at Khadarlis! Our passion is the same, whether helping our friends or total strangers. Especially when some our neighbors are suffering this winter.

Introducing ourselves to Bannister House

Our Executive Director, Aisha Khadar, took a quick visit to Bannister House a few weeks ago. Bannister House does great work providing everything from nursing to social services.All she wanted to do was introduce herself to the staff and let them know Khadarlis was here to help the local community. 

But what she saw shocked her. 

So many of the Bannister House's residents needed help! People were missing winter clothes. Worse, many didn't have coats to last them the winter.

She knew Khadarlis had to do something! 

Helping those in Need

Without asking a thing in return Aisha wanted to get a huge donation drive ready. 

While most of Khadarlis was still getting organized from our donations and moving, volunteers made sure to spend time to get as many winter clothes as ready as possible. Before we knew it, there were over 20 trash bags of clothes ready to go. 

What Khadarlis Donated

Those 20 bags held over 170 coats, sweatshirts and sweatpants for the residents of Bannister House. All Khadarlis asked for in return was for the people of Banister House to stay warm this winter.

You don't have to run your own non-profit to make a difference. Take a chance this year, meet new people in your community and help those people in need! It's worth it!

How to use the Khadarlis Community Outreach Center

Since we've just moved to our new location, we're ready to help our new neighbors in the Cranston Street/Olynyeville area.

So today, we're going to introduce you to  Khadarlis' Community Outreach Center.

What is the Outreach Center?

The Community Outreach Center is Khadarlis' most successful program in RI. The Center is partnered with Community Action Programs (CAP), like PROCAP, to give out free donations to people in need.

Our donations come from corporate sponsors like Home Depot or Bed Bath and Beyondwho give household items  to Khadarlis. We typically have bedding, clothing, or other useful things for your home. All of our donations are picked up and brought straight to our offices at 125 Dodge Street.

We make sure these tiems be able to get these items straight to the most needy people from our community.

The best part is, it's pretty easy for you to get the household items you need.

How to use the Center

Our unofficial motto at Khadarlis is: "Help the needy not the greedy." We serve those who are either disaster victims or financial burdened.

Unfortunately, with so many people are needy within Providence, we serve folks who are also clients of CAP agencies. This makes it really easy to help you if you use a CAP agency for help.

All you have to do is:

• Visit Your local CAP ! If you ask for help with things like rental assistance, furniture, bedding or other home items, from your local agency, you might be referred you somewhere else
• Get a Referral Form! All you have to do is sign a waiver, and bring it whatever local nonprofit you are referred to.
• Head to an Agency! If you are sent to our Khadarlis' Outreach Center just bring an ID, fill out a form, and you're free to select up to 5 donations for you and your family. We'll even keep you on file if you need something else.

We're Happy to Help!

At Khadarlis we like to offer more than just donations.

We can help connect you with other agencies to help with rent, or other services we can't provide. Even more important, we'll give you information to get other services you need.

Khadarlis will always put 100% effort to do what it can for you. We've helped the homeless, disaster victims, and people going through rough times.

Khadarlis is finally starting to look like home!

A little Bit like home

We've been hard at work organizing our donations, hooking up our phones and cleaning up some of the dirt we tracked into the building. 

Khadarlis was a little unsure how we would be able to serve people even without working internet, phones not up, or even any relationships with people in our new neighborhood! We forgot about the easiest way to spread the word: talking to people!

Giving Away Bread

For several months Khadarlis has had a partnership with a local bakery. At our Chalkstone location we were giving away hundreds of loaves of bread away per week. But our latest load simply went bad. We had no way to market or give away loaves! We simply had no time to reach people

Thankfully, the community found us.

A Happy New Year and New Beginning from Khadarlis!

Welcome to Khadarlis' first blog post of 2014! From all of us at Khadarlis we wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year!

Last time we spoke, we unveiled the design for our new logo, but the new year brings new signs! Take a minute and see what Khadarlis will look like in 2014.

The New Design

In order to truly make Khadarlis' new location a home, we wanted to bring positive energy and renewal to Khadarlis' brand. Of course, we need to make an awesome first impression in an area we haven't served before. After searching for a screen printing vendor who could get us signs, this is the final design:

Our new design features our motto and the new logo, and will be hung over the new entrance way of Khadarlis. The new sign should welcome our visitors as they step inside the new Khadarlis, and be the first step towards connecting with a new community.

Once inside, clients will be able to see posters of all our past efforts before meeting our staff.

A Special Thanks

While we serve people every day, we certainly don't have the type of graphic design to make such a beautiful logo!

That's why  we give our sincere thanks to Johnson and Wales University (JWU), media department for this great new logo, and (East Coast imaging) for making our new signs for our new home.

Looking Forward to a New Year

We look forward to meeting the new faces in the community and another year of service. We want to give away as much bread, give away as many donated goods, and help build better lives for as many people as we can.
